Linux or GNU/Linux?

All these days i took it for granted that Linux is an Operating System. My friend pointed out today that Linux is the kernel used in GNU/Linux Operating System. GNU’s kernel wasn’t finished, so GNU is used with the kernel Linux. The combination of GNU and Linux is the GNU/Linux operating system.
